Help Topics

What’s BigBoard?
This is where you can view all lot bidding at the same time.  We recommend you use Big Board to watch the auction and be sure to press F5 or the refresh button to get the most current bid.  And you can just click on a lot number on BigBoard to get detail information, see pictures and bid.

What’s that countdown timer thing under the header?
A Buyer’s Choice Auction means that all lots sell at the SAME TIME.  The countdown timer tells you how much time is left before the entire auction concludes.  If extended bidding is in effect, the countdown timer may add time to Time left.  But remember to use the red Refresh button or press F5 to get the most current bids and most current time left.  Auction timer only refreshes when you take some action (i.e. move to another page, place a bid, press Refresh).  Timer only refreshes automatically every 10 minutes or when timer reaches zero.

Where can I see the sale offering?
To view all lots, click the View Sale Offering menu tab.  Then to see additional details, click on the individual lot# for additional pictures.

Do I have to register and login to see the sale offering?
No, you can watch the Big Board and View the Sale offering without registering.  But if you want to bid or setup a watchlist, you must register and setup a username and password.  At that time, you will be assigned a bidder #.

How do I get a bidder # so I can bid?
You are assigned a bidder # when you register.   To register, click on the word “Register” right below Username  in the Login area.  Fill in at least all required fields and click the Register button at the bottom of the screen.

How do I bid?
From the Big Board, click on the Lot # and you will be taken to that lot’s Detail screen or from View Sale Offering , you’ll see a My Bid Box.  In either case, you have to be logged in with the user name and password you received when you registered to bid.  For a manual bid, type your bid amount in the My Bid box and press Send.  For a ProxyChoice bid, check the ProxyChoice bidding box above the MyBid box and then type in your maximum bid amount and press Send.  You will be taken to the ProxyChoice screen where you can confirm your bid and even add additional bids for other lots.  SEE BELOW for Proxy Choice details.

What is a ProxyChoice Bid?
A ProxyChoice Bid is the highest dollar amount the bidder is willing to pay for a lot.  In its most simple form, the bidder decides the maximum amount he will pay for a particular lot.  Above the My Bid box, he checks the ProxyChoice Bidding box,  enters his max amount in the My Bid box and presses Send.  Then the “My ProxyChoice Tickets” screen appears where the bidder can check his bid, press the “Continue to Confirm” button and click “Send Bids”.
BUT—if the bidder decides he would like to give himself an AUTOMATIC 2nd, 3rd or 4th choice, he can do that here too.  Here’s an example:
1st Example: Joe would be willing to purchase any of 3 lots but he only wants 1 total.  He creates the following ProxyChoice ticket:

:

# of Lots Desired:

1

Priority

Lot#

Max Price

1

39

$ 2,000

2

22

$ 1,750

3

16

$ 1,500

Joe sends his ProxyChoice ticket and the computer immediately places Joe’s bid on his first priority, Lot #39.
The current bid for Joe’s 1st choice, Lot#39 is $1700 (bid increment is $100).  The computer will then put in a bid for Joe of $1800.  Another bidder bids $1900.  The computer ups Joe’s bid to $2,000 (his max).   But another bidder outbids him with a $2,100 bid.  So the computer now automatically moves on to Joe’s second choice.  Lot #22.  Current bid is $1,500.  Computer puts in a bid for Joe for $1.600.  There are no other bids and Joe wins this lot for $1,600.

Proxy Choice can even take it one step further! Maybe instead of one lot, Joe would like 2 lots total.
2nd.Example: Joe would be willing to purchase any of 5 lots but he only wants 2.  He creates the following ProxyChoice ticket:

:

# of Lots Desired:

2

Priority

Lot#

Max Price

1

39

$ 2,000

2

22

$ 1,750

3

16

$ 1,500

4

2

$ 1,250

5

6

$ 1,250

Joe submits his ProxyChoice ticket and the computer immediately starts to find Joe 2 lots.
The current bid for Joe’s 1st choice, Lot#39 is $600 (bid increment is $50).  The computer will then put in a bid for Joe of $650.  (By the end of the auction, there have been several other bids but Joe does win this lot for $950)
Concurrently, the bid on Joe’s 2nd choice, Lot#22, is $2,000 so computer can’t put in a bid for Joe on this lot.  The computer moves on to choice 3, Lot#16 which is currently selling for $800.  The computer puts in a bid for Joe for $850.  (At auction end, there have been no other bids on this lot so Joe buys the lot for $850.)

What is a Bid Increment?
The Bid Increment is the minimum dollar amount that the bid must be raised.  You can bid higher than the Next Bid price (Current Bid plus bid increment) but the computer will not let you bid less than the displayed “NEXT BID” amount.

What is Extended time bidding?
Extended Times means that the auction is not declared closed until there have been a certain number of minutes of inactivity. If there is any bidding during the inactivity period, the auction is extended until there is no bidding during the inactivity period.  You can always check the Expires In: info that appears on several screens. Seller chooses length of inactivity period.  (Generally 5 or 10 minutes)  For example, let's say the inactivity period is 10 minutes.
Example 1:
Original Auction close is 7pm.  There is no bidding from 7pm to 7:10pm.  All lots are declared closed at 7:10pm.
Example 2:
Original Auction close is 7pm.  There is a bid placed at 7:05.  Auction is extended by 10 minutes.  No more bidding.  All lots declared closed at 7:15pm.
Example 3:
Original Auction close is 7pm.  There is a bid placed at 7:05.  Auction is extended by 10 minutes until 7:15.  Another bid is placed at 7:12.  No more bids are placed.  Auction is declared closed at 7:22pm.

How do I know I won?
If you are the high bidder, the system will send you an email when the auction ends. You will also receive an invoice by email.  The invoice email will have complete instructions on payment.

How can I make sure I am seeing the most current bidding information on the screen?
During the bidding process you should click the Refresh button or F5  to refresh you page to ensure you are viewing the most current bidding screen. We recommend viewing the sale on the BigBoard screen for quickest refreshes.

Is my countdown timer 100% accurate?
Since your own computer may not exactly match the time on the auction server computer, the countdown timer is only an ESTIMATED time.  Clicking F5 or Refresh will make your time more accurate but we do NOT guarantee that your countdown time will match the auction server countdown time.

Should I wait until the last second to make sure I get the bid and someone else doesn’t beat me to it?
NO!!  Remember the extended time feature!  Even if you do bid very close to the end of the auction, as soon as you place your bid, the auction is extended by 5 or 10 minutes. (depending on seller's choice.)  And, remember, your countdown timer is only an ESTIMATE.  If you wait until the last few seconds, your countdown timer could be off by a few seconds and the auction will be declared closed before you have a chance to place your bid.

If I win, how and when do I pay?
When you win an item you will receive an email that will give you complete details of your purchase. You indicate method of payment you want to use when you register.

Whom do I contact with my questions?
Contact the seller.  His name and phone numbers are listed at the bottom of every website screen or click the Contact us tab on the TopMenu.

Buyers Choice Auction has a bid increment.  Seller has set a minimum price on each lot.  The term "Next Bid" at sale start time will be the seller's minimum price. At that time, Current Bid will be blank. After a bid has been placed and displayed as Current Bid, the Next Bid displayed on the screen is calculated using current bid and the bid increment.  The bid increments for this sale is $250.
Example:  Current Bid is $3,000.  Next Minimum bid would be $3,250.

There are 2 types of bidding on Buyers Choice.

Manual Bid - You enter your bid into the computer and press the SEND BID button.  Computer will automatically record that bid.

ProxyChoice Bid - Sometimes called Automatic Bid but it is taken to a new level!  On the same screens where Manual bids are placed, there is an option to make your bid a ProxyChoice Bid.  (ProxyChoice Bidding can also be accessed from Top Menu.)

  • In its simplest form, this means that you can enter a MAXIMUM amount you would be willing to bid on this particular lot.  The computer will place your bid for the lowest amount that will allow you to be winning the bid.  If additional bids are placed, the computer will automatically raise the bid for you up to your maximum bid.  (If it happens that your maximum bid imatches the winning bid amount but you are not declared the winner, this means that another person placed a ProxyChoice bid before you did and had the same maximum bid amount.)
  • Or you can specify multiple lots- This takes Proxy bidding to a new level!  Before you confirm your single ProxyChoice bid, you have the opportunity to expand your bid to include multiple lots.  You can tell the computer how to bid for you.  You determine: How Many lots you want to buy, What Lots you would be interested in purchasing, How you would prioritize your choices and what maximum price you would pay for each individual lot. The computer does the rest automatically.  After you’ve completed and sent your first ProxyChoice ticket, you may add additional tickets, if you desire.

Big Board is "where the action is" on the Buyer's Choice Auction website.  All lots are listed here in numerical order by Lot# with Identifier (Ear notch or Tatto for example, )Current Bid, Current Bidder # and Next Bid.  Clicking on any field in a particular lot #'s box will bring up detail information about the animal and allows the user to place a manual bid (after start time) or ProxyChoice bid. (Anytime).  ProxyChoice bids are placed by checking the ProxyChoice bidding box above the My Bid box or through the separate ProxyChoice bidding screen accessed through the Top Menu.
When a bid is placed (after start time), the Big Board screen will highlight that particular lot.  The lot will stay highlighted for a brief period of time.  The Next Bid field is the minimum that a bidder can currently bid.  Next Bid amount at start time is the seller's reserve price.  Next Bid amount after a bid has been placed is Current Bid plus bid increment.

  • · Buyer can bid on his choices.
  • · Buyer does not have to deal with the seller’s order of sale because all lots are offered and bid on simultaneously.
  • · The buyer has the choice to switch to any other lot in the offering if he is outbid on his current choice.
  • · This method gives the buyer true choices and more time to make decisions.
  • · The buyer should have “no regrets” when the auction is complete. This results in higher buyer satisfaction.
  • · The option of ProxyChoice bidding allows the buyer to determine ahead of time what lots he is interested in, how many he wants to buy, how he would prioritize them and what maximum price he would pay for each individual lot on his ProxyChoice ticket. The computer does the rest automatically.
  • · Bidding is very simple and clear.
  • · The auction-end “extended time” feature gives buyers ample time to make a purchasing decision.

DELIVERY OF LOTS: Transport is provided free of charge to the nearest saleyards.  At the conclusion of the auction (pre-determined end time plus extended bidding) all lots purchased in the auction become the legal property of their respective buyers.  No cattle will be delivered or released without payment or arrangements made in advance with the seller.  Arrangements for housing or maintenance of sold lots may be arranged between buyer and seller and are at the sole discretion of these two parties.  At no time does Sale Day Global or Buyers Choice Auction assume ownership or responsibility for items sold. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to inspect the animals prior to bidding or assume full liability for the lot/s purchased.

Extended Times means that the auction is not declared closed until there have been a certain number of minutes of inactivity. If there is any bidding during the inactivity period, the auction is extended until there is no bidding during the inactivity period.  You can always check the Expires In: info that appears on several screens. For this sale, the inactivity period is 5 minutes first house, then the extended time is reduced to 3 minutes.
Example 1:
Original Ending time is 7pm.  There is no bidding from 7pm to 7:05pm.  All lots are declared closed at 7:05 pm.
Example 2:
Original Ending time is 7pm.  There is a bid placed at 7:03.  Auction is extended by 5 minutes.  No more bidding.  All lots declared closed at 7:08pm.
Example 3:
Original Ending time is 7pm.  There is a bid placed at 7:03.  Auction is extended by 5 minutes until 7:08.  Another bid is placed at 7:06.  No more bids are placed.  Auction is declared closed at 7:11pm.

For bank direct transfer instructions, please contact Focus Genetics office by email info@focusgenetics.com or phone 06 8395 836 for transfer instructions.

    2. INVOICING:  An invoice with payment instructions will be sent to each buyer’s registered e-mail address at the close of bidding. Bidders who have not received an e-mail invoice within 12 hours after the close of bidding should contact the Focus Genetics Office at info@focusgenetics.com or phone 06 8395 836. At the conclusion of an auction the realised bid prices will be posted with the winning buyer number. Payment in full is expected promptly after the auction and before any livestock are delivered. Failure to complete the payment terms as stated above may result in forfeiture of animals purchased, legal action, and negative feedback reported to the credit bureaus. Livestock agents who register on behalf of a client, will receive their 6% rebate once payment is received in full by Focus Genetics.

     My ProxyChoice Tickets allows you, the bidder, to determine:

     What Lots you would be interested in purchasing

  • How many you want to buy,
  • How you would prioritize your choices
  • What maximum price you would pay for each individual lot.
  • The computer does the rest automatically.   (After you’ve completed and sent your first ProxyChoice ticket, you may add additional tickets, if you desire.)  You can edit or delete your ProxyChoice Ticket until the sale actually starts. Then your bids are binding. If you submit a ProxyChoice Ticket after the sale has started, your bids are binding.

    You can be assured that your ProxyChoice bid is confidential.  It is definitely NOT visible to the seller.  It ONLY appears on computer screens that are logged in with your username and password.

    Example (Single Lot):  Joe wants to purchase Lot# 39 and will pay up to $2,000.  He submits his Proxy Choice ticket as follows:

    :

    # of Lots Desired:

    1

    Priority

    Lot#

    Max Price

    1

    39

    $ 2,000

    The computer immediately starts bidding for Joe. The current bid for Lot#39 is $600 (bid increment is $50).  The computer will then put in a bid for Joe of $650.  (By the end of the auction, there have been several other bids but Joe does win this lot for $950)

    Example (Multi Lot):  Joe would be willing to purchase any of 5 lots but he only wants 2.  He creates the following ProxyChoice ticket:

    :

    # of Lots Desired:

    2

    Priority

    Lot#

    Max Price

    1

    39

    $ 2,000

    2

    22

    $ 1,750

    3

    16

    $ 1,500

    4

    2

    $ 1,250

    5

    6

    $ 1,250

    The Refresh (F5) button should be used to make sure computer is displaying most current data.  You can press the Refresh button at any time.  Or you can use the F5 key on your keyboard.
    BE SURE TO REFRESH YOUR SCREEN BEFORE BIDDING SO YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE THE MOST CURRENT INFORMATION!
